Alewives Fabrics is housed in an antique barn in Damariscotta Mills; a small historic town located on the coast of Maine. Family owned and operated since 1978, today, Alewives Fabrics is known for an eclectic mix of carefully selected fabrics: we carry the best of contemporary designs, mixed in with vintage graphics such as stripes, polka dots and toiles.

We are called Alewives Fabrics after the alewife fish, who make their annual migration to a waterfall located near our store. Every year thousands of alewives migrate to Damariscotta Lake. The midcoast area is beautiful in any season, but "alewife time" is our own particular season.

We feel very fortunate to have a business in this area of the country that is so full of natural beauty and populated by people who value a simpler way of life. Thank you for visiting our website!

Sincerely,

Barbara and Rhea

Alewives Fabrics is no longer open to the public and we are solely operating online. This is most likely a permanent change due to a number of factors, most of them good! Our website is very busy and this allows us the flexibility to spend time with our families. However, curbside pickup is available for local customers Tuesday through Thursday from 10-4 (due to high volume of sales, we typically need at least 24 hours to fill curbside pickup orders, and it's a good idea to leave us a note if you have a deadline for picking up your order, just in case we are running behind. We will get your order filled ASAP!).

You can contact us through our contact page! We will be happy to assist you.

FAQ

It is our intention that you have a great experience with Alewives Fabrics from start to finish and we work very hard to meet your needs.
Please be advised that cut fabrics may not be returned, unless defective, incorrect or a misrepresentation of what you ordered.
Please also keep in mind that every computer monitor/screen is different, so while we make every effort to make the images on our website as accurate as possible, slight variations in color are normal and should be expected.

Please e-mail any questions, comments or concerns to alewives@alewivesfabrics.com.

Due to the nature of our business, we usually do not accept returns. However, if you feel there are extenuating circumstances, we are always here to listen. Send an email to alewives@alewivesfabrics.com and we will go from there!

Shipping is calculated at checkout. To determine the cost of shipping your order, enter the items you wish to purchase in your shopping cart, and then enter your shipping address to see the cost of shipping. Don't forget to select shipping vs. local pickup!

I would love to ship to my international friends, but due to unforeseen circumstances (i.e., incredibly high shipping costs), we are currently only shipping to a few countries outside of the US. If the current Postmaster General is able to get his act together, we will once again resume shipping to all countries as we used to do. For now, costs of shipping overseas are just too prohibitive, and life's too short to deal with hate mail from foreigners over things I can't control. Sorry about that!
